Most of us at some time have had a WOF issuer express concern regarding a chip in our vehicle windscreen.

Likewise, plenty of our clients have expressed displeasure after a WOF issuer “picking” on a seemingly unnecessary point.

Some of these clients have queried us to provide the details of the reasons for WOF rejections due to stone chip damage on a windscreen.

Thought this might be a good time to add this to our blog.

The short answer is that any WOF issuer may rightly reject a Warrant of Fitness to a vehicle that has a chip anywhere of any size on the windscreen on the basis of L.T.S.A rule 32012/2.

If a vehicle has a stone chip, and fails a WOF, you may not need to have the windscreen replaced.

A standard known as AS/NZS2366 (1&2) allows for the safe repair of damaged Autoglass to a certain standard.

Auckland Windscreens has the equipment to execute repairs in accordance with AS/NZS 2366 – you may not need a new windscreen.
